IB MYP 1 to 5 (Grades 6 to 10)
The Middle School Years Program (MYP) is a five-year interdisciplinary program that offers learners a framework that motivates, challenge their critical thinking, build their abilities, and guide them to make connections between their learning and real world.
IB-MYP empowers the learners with all the skills and profiles required by the 21st century and helps them thrive and make a difference in a rapidly changing world through well-planned and designed right core academic disciplines providing all the opportunities for holistic learning in our increasingly interconnected world. MYP learners enhance their learning through unstoppable inquiry into significant issues, concepts and ideas. They explore local, national or global contexts that build an international minded learner throughout the years; as a result, they grow up actively and become those creative, critical and reflective thinkers who are ready to compete with the future universities and career requirements.
ATLs and profiles to build a strong effective character
We build our learners’ character traits through ten essential profiles and core values that reflect a better version of themselves and keep on adding to their peaceful world. They learn how to reflect, inquire, think, communicate positively, balance their life, take the risk to present their well-designed, plans, open their minds to the whole global world while appreciating theirs, and show care to all aspects of life. In addition, MYP provides ways to implement approaches to learning (ATLs) that strengthens the learners’ abilities and help them plan better for their development. MYP required skills show the learners “how to learn” a skill independently by developing their basic skills, which are collaboration, research, critical and creative thinking, communication, and self-management. MYP uses the ATLs to urge students to apply their knowledge and skills in unfamiliar contexts.
ATLs help to integrate learning, add rationality and coherence to the curriculum, deepen understanding, and encourage transfer of learning to new contexts.
Service as Action, Community projects, and Personal Project
Not only the MYP learning environment helps to build a responsible learner who is able to think about his world and sympathize its problems, but also it allows the learners to simplify complex ideas and dedicate support and solutions through Service as Action and Community Service. Taking reasonable actions through “service as action” takes place though the full program of the MYP in which it takes a deeper application through The Community project in MYP 3 (grade 9). Both projects are considered as essential integral parts of the MYP program which are later followed by the Personal Project in MYP 5 (grade 10), the final year in the program.
Global learners
MYP learners have better opportunities to apply the best of their learning and dive into broader understanding when the content is linked to global contexts related to their lives and personal experience. MYP learners turn into real global citizens throughout the MYP years through the global contexts that illustrate their real-world setting, event, circumstance or application that have deep connections to their learning process and the unit’s conceptual understanding. The whole process takes place when the content is explored through a holistic lens that draws their focus through the following global contexts:
Assessments
MYP assessments are through rigorous created tasks in which the learners are illustrating their knowledge, chosen profiles, and the practiced skill. Through these assessments, the learners reflect on their learning, receive constructive feedback, and plan for their coming steps. They are marked by the classroom teacher who is fully equipped with all the teaching and learning tools, yet go through a standardization process by other teachers from the same department to avoid subjectivity. MYP personal project is considered one of the official assessments that is externally validated by the IB where the learners have to produce a personal original, and creative, piece of their own aligned with a plan showing their success criteria for this project. At the same time, the school register for an external assessment (eAssessment) in all the program elements.
MYP teachers
Through approaches to teaching, our teachers pave the way to effective constructive approaches that lead to enhanced classrooms where different views and perspectives are valued. MYP teachers are responsible for creating an inquiry-based learning that provokes curiosity that sustains exploration through conceptual, contextualized, collaborative, and differentiated planning.
MYP teachers aren’t only tuned into new methods and approaches that pave the ways to the learners and facilitate meeting their learning outcomes and managing work; they are also able to observe students and give them feedback while they are growing as independent learners, tackling new experiences and solving problems. MYP teachers embed ATL skills into unit planners, lesson plans, and daily activities to create opportunities for students to practice them. MYP teachers always make good use of any opportunity to see students demonstrating the Learner Profile attributes, practicing their skills in the real life, exploring new areas of their content, and abiding the learning process as long-life learners packing all the required aspects of the MYP program.
MYP students are expected to prove their understanding through their educational experiences, actions, Community and Personal projects that are tools for MYP learners to navigate their world through a prism of discovering new information.
At the end of MYP program, which is externally validated by the IBO, the learners become internationally certified by the IB, are ready to start their Diploma program safely, fully equipped with the future tools, and have all the requirements for any success criteria.
MYP Team
The commitment of the MYP team encompasses ensuring the achievement of their students. They value the commitment and resilience demonstrated by their worldwide network of educators, instructors, and IB World Schools in assisting and directing students through their individual projects and assessments. The MYP team acknowledges the endeavors of students and the influence of their commitment on their personal development and comprehension.
